The installation ‘Always want it’ was made for the exhibition Engage at the Gazon Rouge Gallery in Athens in 2006.
For this installation the floor, the ceiling and all the walls of the exhibiting space was covered with semi-transparent plastic. Through the plastic one can still see the specific neo-classical features of the building’s interior (like a fireplace and the ornamental plastering of the walls). Attached to the ceiling are 24 light bulbs that create a brightly lit and very warm setting. Headphones lie on the floor. One can hear a male voice telling a story; an enigmatic narrative that leaves the listener in uncertainly. The heat of the light bulbs is intensified by the impermeable plastic that completely covers the room, creating the unpleasant atmosphere of a greenhouse. The slanted ceiling of the space also contributes to the uncomfortable, claustrophobic atmosphere evoked by the other elements in the exhibition. The only reference to the outside world is a window, which enables one to see the daylight.
